Among the weekend's competitors is Latvia native, Maris Strombergs, who took home Olympic gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 games, as well as silver medalist Sam Willoughby, the reigning USA BMX No. 1 champion out of Australia. Albuquerque local, Kalvin Davis, 22, is also among the weekend's leading contenders in the 19-27 Expert Division. He was also responsible for rebuilding the course at Duke City BMX this past year.
Competition began at 1:30 p.m. today, with races scheduled throughout the weekend. Races are typically 35-second sprints, with registered competitors spanning from 2-76 years old. Action starts on Friday with morning practices and afternoon racing. The main events begin at noon on Sunday. Find the complete schedule here:

The Spring Nationals are expected to bring more than 1,000 professional and amateur riders to Albuquerque over the weekend.
