(Albuquerque, NM – May 13th, 2011) – In celebration of National Bike to Work Day, tables will be set up at three Rail Runner stations on Friday, May 20th, from 5:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. to take applications for Bicycle locker rentals throughout the corridor. Rio Metro staff members will be accepting applications and handing out keys for the lockers at the Los Lunas, Downtown Albuquerque, and Los Ranchos/Journal Center stations. Locker rentals will cost $25 per six-month period (A one-time $50 refundable key deposit will also be collected). Those who sign up through the month of May will get an extra month free!
“We have a lot of people who take their bikes on the train, especially now that the weather is warming up”, says Dewey Cave, Executive Director of the Mid-Region Council of Governments. “This Bike to Work Day event is the perfect place to let people know about the bike locker program, and get interested passengers signed up.”

As part of the Bike to Work Day festivities, there will also be a drawing for four free six-month bike locker rentals.
Six-Rail Runner stations received bike lockers last month, and five more will have them installed before the end of May, with the exception of the Santa Fe Depot station. The lockers are complete enclosures designed to hold one-bicycle as well as bicycle gear such as panniers, locks, and lights. Users will receive one key that will only open their locker. Each locker has a unique lock and key to provide maximum security.
Lockers are available on a first come - first served basis. If there are no lockers available at the time of a request, an applicant’s name will be added to a waiting list until a locker becomes available.
