Albuquerque, NM – Albuquerque is excited to welcome the Albuquerque Film & Media Experience (AFME), June 3-9, 2013, with ambitions programming and names that will draw film fans from around the world.
The Albuquerque Film & Media Experience is a socially conscious and impactful event that represents creative achievement in film, music, arts and entertainment. AFME programming includes domestic and international movies, new media, food and art, intimate conversations, panels and time with industry leaders in attendance.
Appropriately themed “Get Your Kicks & Flicks on Route 66,” the festival is a week worth of events located along Central Avenue (Route 66) from Albuquerque’s historic KiMo Theater in downtown to the Hiland district. The robust festival will include 80 movies, panels, “Intimate Conversations,” unique parties and events. In an effort to connect and create a more tolerant and compassionate world through educational workshops, lectures, screenings and events, the international program will spotlight filmmaking and artistry from Israel and the United Kingdom.
Musician Thomas Dolby will open the week-long festival starting Monday June 3, 2013 at the historic Lobo Theater. He will be showing excerpts of his first film, “The Invisible Lighthouse,” to gauge audience reaction, fine tune the movie edits and prepare for the project’s completion later in 2013. Dolby will be discussing his first filmmaking project during a Q&A panel and then perform live in front of a standing-room-only crowd. An Evening with Robert Redford will be an opportunity for Mr. Redford to converse with Mr. Robert Lynch (Americans for the Arts CEO), and share his love of filmmaking, art and living in the Land of Enchantment.
As part of the AFME week of events, a culinary evening extravaganza, called Taste of Film, will entice both food and film lovers, showcasing films from AFME’s festival through a delicious representation by the creative mind of Chef Michael Giese at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The event will take us on a journey of the senses, where culinary imagery from the silver screen is interpreted through Chef Michael’s creative themed hors d’oeuvres and a six course epicurean experience. The event will benefit The Storehouse, New Mexico’s largest food pantry.
