The University of New Mexico (UNM) Track & Field program will serve as the host institution with support from the Visit Albuquerque and the City of Albuquerque. The City of Albuquerque introduced a 200-meter Mondo track in 2005 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. In the years since, it has served as UNM’s indoor facility, hosted three USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, two NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, and it will soon host the NCAA Indoor Championships, among many other high caliber track and field events.
This event will generate more than $1.3 million in direct spending in Albuquerque along with 3,000 hotel room nights with more than 600 athletes, coaching staff and administrators attending.
“Being selected as the host site for the 2014 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships further substantiates that Albuquerque is the indoor track and field capital of the United States. With the long line of professional, collegiate, high school, and youth meets hosted here, our reputation as an outstanding sports destination continues to elevate,” said Dan Ballou, Visit Albuquerque’s Director of Sports Marketing.
