Albuquerque, NM (December 2011) – The Sports Marketing Association has awarded Albuquerque its 2013 National Convention. The convention will take place October 23-27, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque.

The Sports Marketing Association brings together professors who teach Sports Marketing collegiate classes (nationally and internationally.) The convention is focused on sports marketing events, trends, and education. While at the convention, the group will attend local events and invite lecturers from the local market to speak on the challenges and success from the local perspective. More than 250 collegiate sports marketers will convene in Albuquerque to discuss trends in the industry.

“Albuquerque was appealing to the group as a place where they can gain perspective on marketing in the golf industry, the ski industry, minor league sports, and sports at the university level,” said Daniel Ballou, Visit Albuquerque Director of Sports Marketing, who led the Visit Albuquerque team on this successful bid for Albuquerque.

The convention in Albuquerque will mark the first time the group has not met in a major professional sports city—a city with at least one highest professional league team – NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, NASCAR.
