ALBUQUERQUE – The 2010 NRA National Junior Air Gun Championship and Training Summit will be held in Albuquerque from June 23-26 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Participants in the competition are from middle school age up to 20 years old, with teams comprising of four individuals. The event is open to spectators on all days, with free admission. This is the first time this event has been held in Albuquerque.
 
 The tournament is divided into two events: Sporter Air Rifle and Precision Air Rifle. Competing teams are composed of school teams, local clubs, military scholastic teams, and state associations. Participants are grouped into three age categories: Sub-Junior (under 14), Intermediate Junior (15-17), and Junior (18-20).

150 junior shooters from 15 states will participate in the event.

In addition to competing, contestants will also attend training classes on mental and physical aspects of competition, nutrition for shooters, collegiate shooting programs, and other opportunities and programs available for youth.

“We’re excited to bring this year’s National Junior Air Gun Championship and Training Summit to Albuquerque. We have competitors traveling from all across the country to see how they measure up to other air gun shooters on a national level,” said Jessica McClain, NRA Air Gun Coordinator.

The competition is expected to attract an attendance of 690 people, bringing $303,500 in direct spending, according to estimates from the Visit Albuquerque.
