Albuquerque, NM – The Albuquerque Convention Center is about to get a $20 million facelift. The Visit Albuquerque (Visit Albuquerque) is pleased to announce that the West Complex of the Albuquerque Convention Center will soon have a new look that better represents the unique architectural elements of our region.

The City of Albuquerque has selected Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, a local architecture firm, to develop a design that better reflects Albuquerque’s history, art, culture and environment.

The preliminary designs include a new exterior façade, complete remodeling of the ballroom, a new entertainment deck in the ballroom, massive windows with panoramic views, the west building lower level atrium will be completely remodeled to include a fireplace, and a lower level food court/café.

In addition to the $20 million being invested in the Albuquerque Convention Center, more than $200 million has been invested in upgrades and renovations at hotel and meeting facilities across the city in recent years.

“We are pleased to see the City of Albuquerque’s exciting new improvements to our Convention Center, which will help showcase the essence of Albuquerque and the Southwest.  These renovations will continue to ensure that a meeting in Albuquerque is a uniquely different experience” said Dale Lockett, President/CEO of the Visit Albuquerque.

The project will be phased to allow for ongoing convention and meeting business. Construction is slated to start by mid-2013 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
