The New Mexico Sports Authority and the Visit Albuquerque (Visit Albuquerque) will serve as co-hosts of the championships. This year’s event will welcome 600 attendees, 1,225 hotel room nights and $299,500 in direct spending to the Albuquerque area, according to the Visit Albuquerque.
“After the tremendous response we saw to the USATF Indoor Championships, we hope the Albuquerque community will come out and support the Division II athletes as well,” said Dan Ballou, Director of Sports Marketing at Visit Albuquerque.
This will be the first national championship event that ASC has hosted in over 40 years and the very first at the NCAA Division II level.
“Although we have had a tremendous history of success with our track and field program, we have never had the opportunity to host a national championship event in our sport,” said ASC Director of Cross Country/Track & Field, Damon Martin.
The participants for the championships, which include a maximum of 200 men and 200 women, have been announced by the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee. The complete list of qualifiers is available at: http://www.flashresults.com/flashwest/lists/2010/10d2m3111.htm.
The championships will be held from 9am to 8pm each day with an awards ceremony the second day, March 13, beginning at 6:35pm. Single day passes are available for $10 for adults and $5 for seniors/students/children. A two-day adult pass is $15. Tickets are only available for purchase at the door.
