Young Explorers Summer Camp

Filled with materials-based and hands-on activities -For Kinder through 5th grade -From 8:30am to 3:30pm -$300 per week (10% discount for members) Young Explorers Summer Camp, 2017

June 12th-16thSpace Detectives for K-3rd Are you ready to explore the universe and beyond? This camp will have everything you need to know to become a space detective! Comets, asteroids, rockets, rovers…and so much more! We are looking forward to exploring our starry skies with you! Galactic Engineers for 4th-8th Did you know tinkering with electricity and circuits leads to robots exploring on other worlds? Explore technology in outer space, from Sputnik to tomorrow! This Earth-based camp will reach for the stars!

June 19th-23rd Garden Detectives for K-2nd Enter the gate and spend a week among growing plants and pollinators in the Kiwanis Learning Garden. With our eyes and hands, feet, and ears, we will discover living things in all the garden’s corners! Natural World Around Us for 3rd-5th Explore the natural world of the Albuquerque area! Investigate volcanoes, sand dunes, rivers, and mountains as a naturalist! Plenty of outdoor adventures will be embarked upon this week!

June 26th-30th Dinosaur Detectives for K-2nd Grab your paleontology hat, you’re about to go on a wild adventure! This week is all about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Find out what it’s like to be a paleontologist by examining real-life fossils! You’ll actually be able to meet our museum scientists and check out all of our dinosaur exhibits! Crazy Critters: from NM to the Galapagos for 3rd-5th From your backyard all the way to the Galapagos Islands, there are crazy-looking plants and animals to discover! Why do they look and act the way that they do? Explore how animals are adapted to their environments and why they can oftentimes look so absurd!

July 10th-14th Dinosaur Detectives for K-2nd Grab your paleontology hat, you’re about to go on a wild adventure! This week is all about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Find out what it’s like to be a paleontologist by examining real-life fossils! You’ll actually be able to meet our museum scientists and check out all of our dinosaur exhibits! Noisy Nature for 3rd-5th Have you ever sat in nature and wondered what made the sounds you were hearing? Ever pondered how sound was made or how you hear it? Join us on an aural adventure into nature, sound, and music! We will surf sound waves as we delve into sound physics, how and why animals use sound to communicate, and the exciting world of music in nature!

July 17th-21st Space Detectives for K-2nd Are you ready to explore the universe and beyond? This camp will have everything you need to know to become a space detective! Comets, asteroids, rockets, rovers…and so much more! We are looking forward to exploring our starry skies with you! Celestial Pioneers for 3rd-5th It’s time to blast off to the edges of the Universe! How is it possible that we humans can travel to outer space? What else could we find out there? From planets to stars to entire galaxies, there is so much to learn about our universe and all of its celestial bodies!

July 24th-28th Nature Detectives for K-2nd Investigate nature just as a naturalist would and explore the amazing diversity of New Mexico’s habitats! Spend this week learning about the animals, plants, and rocks of our mountains, grasslands, deserts, and rivers! Garden Explorers for 3rd-5th Tasting fresh dill, watching a butterfly drink nectar, pressing clay into the bark on different trees - an outdoor garden offers explorations for all your senses! Spend this week learning about plants as well as the animals that help or hinder them in the Museum’s own Kiwanis Learning Garden.

July 30th-August 4th Summer Science Sleuths Jr. for K-3rd OR Summer Science Sleuths for 4th-8th Didn’t get enough camp this summer? This week is filled with all sorts of science topics that you may have missed earlier in the summer! Investigate Museum exhibits, examine our fossils and specimens, and speak with our experts!
