Summer Thursday Jazz Nights: What the What + Tony Cesarano Quartet

What The What or "the Trio Different" as they like to call themselves, features three well-traveled Santa Fe natives. Bassist Jon Gagan is best known for his 25 + year association with renowned guitarist Ottmar LIebert. Trumpeter, J.Q. Whitcomb recently relocated from Santa Fe to NYC where he is pursuing a Masters in Jazz Performance at Juilliard. Multi-instrumentalist, Robby Rothschild is recognized for his work along with his brother Char, in the duo Round Mountain. Formed in 2013, What the What fuses diverse elements of funk, jazz, and world music into a unique and compelling sound described as "earthy and inviting," and while they defy categorization, they simultaneously evoke the familiar with their original compositions. Tonight, guitarist Tony Cesarano teams up with pianist Pat Rhodes; bassist John Blackburn; drummer Neal Stone; and Latin percussionist Joey Trujillo for an eclectic set of jazz tunes from the 60's and 70's that were originally recorded by artists such as Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Freddie Hubbard and Joe Sample as well as some original Cesarano tunes.
