Summer Thursday Jazz Nights: Saudade + Charlie Christian Project

The Albuquerque band, Saudade, is celebrating 14 years of playing Brazilian jazz, including the classic gems of bossa nova, choro, and samba as well as the contemporary music of Brazil and Cape Verde. Bandleader and founder, Bob Gusch, plays woodwinds and has assembled a group of like-minded musicians who share his Brazilian obsession. It's Lisa Lopez, piano; Micky Patten on bass; Jefferson Voorhees, drums; and Debo Orlofsky, vocals. Founded in 2012, The Charlie Christian Project celebrates the music of the great Oklahoma-born guitarist, Charlie Christian. Christian was known for his playing with the Benny Goodman Sextet and as the house guitarist at Minton's Playhouse in New York. Although only 25 years old when he died in 1942, Charlie Christian has left an enduring legacy to which this group pays homage. It's Michael Anthony, guitar; Glenn Kostur, woodwinds; Micky Patten, bass; and Cal Haines, drums.
