New Mexico Symphonic Chorus Concert: The Creation

The Creation opens with a stunning tour de force by Haydn intended to conjure chaos-a powerful burst that begins this large, magnificent oratorio. The sources of text for The Creation are Genesis, the Biblical book of Psalms, and John Milton's Genesis epic, Paradise Lost. It was a profound act of faith for Haydn, a deeply religious man who once said, "I was never so devout as when I was at work on The Creation." Hear the sound of "the sun in splendor bright" in this music of pure imagination.
