Jazz Under the Stars: Red Channels-Music of Blacklisted Composers

Presented in collaboration with David Felberg of founder and conductor of Chatter, this exceptional show highlights the music of three American composers who were blacklisted during the "Second Red Scare" of the 1940's and 50's: Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, and Artie Shaw. Starting the concert will be the Michael Anthony/Arlen Asher Quintet performing music by Artie Shaw (Michael Anthony-guitar, Arlen Asher-woodwinds, Paul Gonzales-trumpet, Rob "Milo" Jaramillo-bass, Andy Poling-drums). The second half of the performance will focus on the music of Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. David Felberg, violin; (WAITING ON 1 more violinist); Shanti Randall, viola; Dana Winograd, cello; James Shields, clarinet; Judith Gordon, piano will present Violin Sonata and Sextet by Copland and Clarinet Sonata by Bernstein - all with a contemporary jazz feel using a Chamber structure.
