Exhibition: New Mexico’s African American Legacy-Visible, Vital and Valuable

This exhibition is a pictorial history of the African Americans who have been in the territory of New Mexico since the Spaniards came with African slaves. African Americans migrated to the state seeking greater freedoms and opportunities and to employ their skills as cowboys, trappers, traders, explorers, miners, railroad workers, servants, entrepreneurs, teachers and skilled workers. The African American history is filled with richness, dignity, persistence, faith, and perseverance and provided many contributions to the New Mexico's history.
