2019 Albuquerque Tango Festival
Over 30 hours of milongas with world-class DJs. Three full days of group classes (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Our giant 3,000 SF main dance floor and two large auxillary floors, all in a 14,000 square foot ballroom! Custom-baked cakes at evey milonga. One of the friendliest, most welcoming tango communities anywhere. A fantastic venue, the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, which offers abundant space and which is adjacent to Old Town, which puts over 13 cafes, restaurants, galleries, and shops a short stroll away. A tango shoe exchange. Bring your used shoes, and pick up a pair of used shoes for a great price. Each year during our shoe exchange event we accept consignments for, and sell, hundreds of pairs of slightly used tango shoes!
Honoring Our Veterans
Join Pueblo honor guards, dignitaries, and speakers on this day dedicated to honoring those who have served their country. We’ll also experience the traditional Gourd Dance of the Kiowa people, which features warriors and distinguished leaders. Special discounts and free Pueblo cookies and coffee will be available for all veterans. Sister Nations Color Guard is a group of Native American women veterans representing various Tribal Nations brought together in friendship. They present the colors in Native regalia for community events and at powwows alongside other fellow color guards. The group members are all friends who have been brought together through a combination of their Native heritage and military service. Their name was inspired by the sisterhood they have developed through a shared sense of service, culture, support, friendship and respect for one another. The wear of regalia helps to keep them grounded in their traditional ways as they are called upon to perform color guard duties. In Native tradition, women are the backbone that is entrusted to care for our people and support one another. Today, Native women extend that role and join the military, serve their country and in time, come back to their people.
YJASTROS: A Nuestro Aire, A Celebration of 20 Years
In 1999, Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company began an artistic journey that grew into a revolutionary, distinctive flamenco project. Yjastros uniquely melds an American repertory company with the authentic idiom of flamenco to create a living archive of choreographic masterworks. Yjastros celebrates 20 years of innovative flamenco with world premieres of La Mirada También Baila by Mercedes Ruíz (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain) and Predominio by “La Popi.” The company also will reprise Caravana de los Zincalí (2005) and A Nuestro Aire (2001), two of the most powerful works of artistic director Joaquin Encinias.
22nd Annual New Mexico Veterans Art Exhibit
Artwork by resident veterans, active duty military, reservists and spouses will be on display at the Fine Arts Gallery, NM Expo Fairgrounds: painting, drawing, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, crafts, jewelry and more.

Our Prickly Pear hedge has plentiful pears this year - they ripen late. Come to collect, juice, peel, learn lore, taste recipes! Outdoor event - come directly to the garden. Location: East side of 18th Street -- cross the crosswalk from Museum's dino sculptures (Spike Pentaceratops & Alberta Albertosaurus), follow the sidewalk until you see the garden fence and gate - you can also google Kiwanis Learning Garden ABQ and see our location is listed on "Old Town Road."
Performance: Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Trask and a book by John Cameron Mitchell. The musical follows Hedwig Schmidt, a genderqueer East German singer of a fictional rock and roll band. The story draws on Mitchell's life as the son of a U.S. Army Major General who once commanded the U.S. sector of occupied West Berlin. The character of Hedwig was inspired by a German divorced U.S. Army wife who was Mitchell's family babysitter and moonlighted as a prostitute at her trailer park home in Junction City, Kansas. The music is steeped in the androgynous 1970s glam rock style of David Bowie (who co-produced the Los Angeles production of the show), as well as the work of John Lennon and early punk performers Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. The musical opened Off-Broadway in 1998, and won the Obie Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. The production ran for two years, and was remounted with various casts by the original creative team in other US cities.[1] In 2000, the musical had a West End production, and it has been produced throughout the world in hundreds of stage productions.
