Better Call Saul hasn't even aired its first episode but it has already been picked up for a second season. The Albuquerque-filmed Breaking Bad prequel will star Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), chronicling his adventures prior to teaming up with meth kingpin Walter White (Bryan Cranston).
Production is currently underway here in Albuquerque on the 10-episode first season of the show, which is now set to premiere in early 2015, according to AMC. The 13-episode second-season order brings the total to 23 episodes.
"When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves," said AMC president Charlie Collier. "We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on ‘Saul' and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures."
The success of Breaking Bad put Albuquerque on the map and employed many New Mexicans. The new series reunites many members of the Breaking Bad team including Odenkirk, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, Jonathan Banks, Thomas Schnauz and Gennifer Hutchison. Gilligan, who directed the Better Call Saul pilot, has signed on as co-showrunner along with Gould.
Better Call Saul was originally set to air in November 2014, so while we will have to wait a little longer to see what unfolds, we'll be ready when it does. Learn more about the AMC announcement here.
