Ah, the season of love is upon us. If you are still looking for something fun to do with your sweetie this weekend, we've found a few creative ideas around town that go beyond your traditional flowers and chocolates. Don't have a sweetie? Don't worry. We haven't left you hanging.

1. Ice Skating

Who says you can't ice skate in the desert? Definitely not Buddy's Skate Land at Isleta Resort & Casino. Buddy's is a 40x80-foot synthetic ice skating rink, meaning the "ice" itself is actually not frozen. How does it work? They tell us that synthetic ice has a similar surface as that of refrigerated ice, so you'll still be able to show off your moves like those winter Olympians. This weekend, Buddy's Skate Land is offering a Valentine's Skate Package that consists of skate rentals and skating for four along with dinner for four at Bow Tie Bistro. 2. Macaron Tasting

Chocolates aren't the only treat that can be wrapped up and given to your loved ones this Valentine's Day. Pastry Chef, Sarah Ciccotello, and her team at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm are busily preparing a limited quantity of Cookies of Love: house-made macarons handcrafted with care. Each package contains 15 macarons in three flavors designed to make your sweetie swoon: Red Chile Chocolate, Raspberry Rose and Passion Fruit. The best part? They not only taste great, they look great, too. Each order is wrapped in a kraft box with a glass heart pendant tied in Valentine twine and a custom label. All you have to worry about is not eating them before they get to your intended recipient. $40/box (while supplies last)

*If you are wondering about the spelling, Los Poblanos tells us that there is sometimes cookie confusion between the macaroon and the macaron. These cookies are macarons (pronounced mah-kah-ROHNS), the French kind of cookie. See a fun blog post about the differences between the two here.  

Still prefer chocolates? Buy local from sweet shops like The Candy Lady in Old Town or The Chocolate Dude in Nob Hill.

3. Eating Red Velvet Waffles

Nexus Brewery has something sweet up their sleeve this Valentine's Day to enjoy with your craft beer. You might be familiar with their classic Chicken & Waffles menu item, but this tasty twist takes the waffle portion to a whole new level. Waffle batter + red velvet cake batter = love. They are also featuring free chocolate covered strawberries to the first 100 ladies and 33% off all bottles of wine on Friday, February 14th.

Single? They've got you covered. Hop in on Saturday (February 15) for 33% off all wine.

4. On a Bicycle Built for Two

Steer your love in the right direction with a Velo-Tine's Bike Tour with Routes Bicycle Rentals & Tours. The tours are offered every Saturday in February (with a special tour on Friday, February 14th) and run about 3.5 hours - don't worry, you won't be riding the whole time! There are four excellent stops along the tour: The New Mexico Tea Company, Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm, Casa Rondeña Winery and Joliesse Gourmet Chocolates. You'll also get a tour of some of the city's most beautiful and romantic neighborhoods. Bring your own bike, use one of their fun yellow cruisers or try a tandem ride (bicycle built for two).

5. Getting Hitched!

Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like an all-day wedding marathon. If you've popped the question but haven't made it official, consider heading over to Albuquerque's Hotel Cascada Urban Resort on Friday with your significant other. The day-long affair will feature group weddings, private weddings, same sex weddings, express wedding, exchange of vows and full wedding ceremonies. They're going for a record: Most Wedding Ceremonies Performed in a 24-Hour Period. (Don't worry, there will be a chapel setting, music, a photo booth, delights by Nothing Bundt Cakes and a ceremony presided over by a Marriage Officiant). Be a part of history and sign up for your time slot. Couples will be asked to bring their marriage certificates with them while booking a time to get married.
