Bicyclists, listen up. As it turns out, there exists a dream-worthy biking destination where you can have your cake and eat it too. When it comes to this diverse sport, you won’t have to choose; from road biking, to mountain biking, to BMX, Albuquerque has it all.

Road

The City of Albuquerque began the development of a 50-Mile Activity Loop in 2013 and 48 of those 50 miles are already completed. Circling the circumference of the city, tracing the mountains, lining the river, 50-Mile Loop cyclists will have the opportunity to see Albuquerque from a unique lense that cannot be experienced otherwise. For those who prefer a more relaxed and leisurely pace, smaller sections of the loop will be available through designated access points, making your experience customizable. The 50-Mile Activity Loop welcomes runners, walkers, and roller-skaters as well. As the loop reaches completion, local bike shops, restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and more, will garner access to make your stops a full-fun experience.

Mountain

If mountain biking happens to be your preferred two-wheel outlet, you’re in for a treat. The Sandia Mountain Foothills Open Space makes for the perfect biking playground with over 2,500 acres of steep-sloped trails suitable for all skill-levels. Not to mention, the area provides stunning views of vibrant sunsets, breathtaking photo-ops of the city itself, and a ruggedly beautiful mountain backdrop. Outside of the open space area exists series of other off-road,  mountain biking trails and pathways such as the Paseo del Bosque trail, which takes you from the north to the south edges of the metro area through the Rio Grande’s enchanting cottonwood bosque.

BMX

If you’d like a side of biking with your biking, Albuquerque also happens to be the host city for the BMX Nationals each year. Bring the whole family and sit back as some of the nation’s highest-level BMX bikers fling dirt in this exciting and competitive spectacle.
