The Airport area is home to Albuquerque’s major world renowned airport, sport stadiums and arenas, as well as Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories. There are plenty of hotels conveniently located next to the airport.
Many of our visitors begin their journey at the Albuquerque International Sunport, which is decorated with more than 100 pieces of fine art from New Mexican artists, and is host to regular art exhibits and musical performances. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Information Center
at the Baggage Claim level to get brochures, maps and information from one of ACVB’s helpful, friendly volunteers.
The Airport area is a convenient place to stay, with plenty of lodging options that range from economical to luxurious. Staying here will put you in close proximity to Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories, and many of the hotels offer convenient shuttle service to the airport. Dining in the airport area ranges from authentic ethnic eateries to popular national chains, and many of the hotels offer their own restaurants.
The city's major sporting facilities are located near the airport, too. While you’re here you can watch a football game at University Stadium, root for the Isotopes (our AAA baseball team) at the multimillion-dollar Isotopes Park, or cheer on UNM’s Lobo basketball team at The Pit (UNM Arena), named by Sports Illustrated as one of the top places to watch a sporting event. Hit the links at the Puerto del Sol Golf Course or the University of New Mexico’s Championship Golf Course, nationally recognized by Golf Digest and Golfweek magazines. Both located adjacent to the airport, these golf courses provide a lush, green atmosphere in the middle of the high desert.
Not far from the airport is New Mexico
’s premier 12,000-seat outdoor amphitheatre, Hard Rock Casino Presents the Pavilion where national touring acts play all summer long. Check the calendar of events for concerts during your visit.
