(LOS ANGELES, CA) — Judges at the annual Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition had a field of nearly 3,200 wines to review, from wineries all over the world. After the judges set their tasting glasses down and calculated the scores in May, New Mexico's Southwest Wines had won three medals at this year's prestigious competition.

Southwest Wines was recognized for three distinct varieties under three separate labels. The DH Lescombes 2009 Syrah won a Bronze Medal, and is noted for its delightful nose of black pepper, cassis and cherry. Tasters will note flavors of anise, fresh herbs, and black cherry with a nice toasted oak finish. A Bronze Medal was also awarded to Voluptuous Moscato, a strikingly sweet white bursting with the flavor of rich melon stacked with plump summer berries and hints of ripe peaches. Rounding out the awards, the St. Clair 2010 Riesling won a Gold Medal, and was awarded 93 points. St. Clair Riesling is a semi-sweet white made from German varietal grapes that give it the tastes of tropical fruit complimented by a pleasantly crisp acid finish.

Southwest Wines of Deming, New Mexico, is the state's largest winery. A family owned and operated winery run by the Lescombes family, Southwest Wines benefits from five generations of French winemaking tradition. Southwest Wines offers wine under five separate labels – DH Lescombes, Blue Teal, St. Clair, Voluptuous, De La Cruz and several specialty varieties.

The wines are available throughout the southwest, including at the St. Clair Winery and Bistro locations in Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Farmington. The wines can also be experienced at the St. Clair Tasting Room in Deming, and from fine wine retailers throughout the region. St. Clair wines are available on the Internet at www.southwestwines.com.
