Nomination is second nod in as many years
February 19, 2013 _ ¡Globalquerque! New Mexico’s Annual Celebration of World Music & Culture is honored to once again be nominated for the 2013 World Music Readers' Choice Awards in the Best World Music Festival category. Festival fans can vote once a day online until March 19 at midnight at ¡Globalquerque! was nominated for the same award in 2012.

Other nominees in the category are Earth Celebration (Sado Island, Niigata, Japan), Festival International de Louisianne (Lafayette, LA), globalFEST (New York, NY) and Lotus World Music & Arts Festival (Bloomington, IN)

Tom Frouge and Neal Copperman, who co-founded, produce and direct ¡Globalquerque! were thrilled to learn of the nomination. It comes on the heels of ¡Globalquerque! being honored with a 2013 ABQ Creative Bravos Award, which will be awarded in a ceremony at the Albuquerque Museum of Art & History on March 23, 2013.

“It's amazing. Two years in a row! We are certainly honored to be nominated along side these other groundbreaking festivals” says Frouge, “It is humbling and gratifying to be recognized on a national & international level. We couldn't have gotten here without our fans, sponsors and partners and all their encouragement and support. So big thanks to them! They have helped us raise the festival to this level. It is also nice recognition for Albuquerque and New Mexico. It is encouraging to see's continued support of world music, too".

¡Globalquerque! has grown to be one of the leading festivals presenting world and roots music, with 6000 people attending in 2012 to enjoy three stages featuring a multitude of acts from around the globe including the known (Ozomatli), the legendary (Bettye Lavette), the up-and-coming (Bombino), new discoveries (Canteca de Macao) the traditional (Ti-Coca & Wanga Nègès) and the cutting edge (EarthRise Sound System). The 9th edition of ¡Globalquerque! returns to the National Hispanic Cultural Center, in Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 20 & 21, 2013. The festival will once again be presenting a wide variety of international acts along with their annual School Outreach Program "Mini-Fest" on Friday morning, their Free Saturday daytime Global Fiesta, and the popular Global Village of Craft, Culture & Cuisine.

"We just confirmed our first few acts for 2013 and we will be announcing them soon” Frouge says. "In the meantime, we hope everyone will log on at and vote as often as they can.”
