The 2008 Day of the Tread is a one-of-a-kind event that features pumpkin-lined paths, costumed participants, 18 musical acts and a variety of zany contests sprinkled along the route. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day to the best human and bike costumes.
This “bone-chilling” race will offer something for everyone with four different out-and-back bicycle routes of 10, 25, 50 and 80-mile lengths, and a 4.5-mile fun-run / walk. The event will also include a 2-mile fun-ride for disabled children who will compete on adaptive bikes and be escorted by the Albuquerque Police Department. APD bike cops will also be available throughout the day to help keep the ride safe.
The races will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Spa and will run through some of Albuquerque’s finest scenery including historic downtown neighborhoods and the distinctive Old Town Plaza. After the races, there will be food music and other post-race fun starting at 10:00 a.m.
Entry Fees are: $45 for adults, $80 for tandem riders, and $25 for children 14 and under. Registrations received after Monday, October 20th will incur a $10 late fee. Costumes are encouraged but not required to participate.
