Artspace 116 announces Compositions, an exhibit of photographs and sculptures by Fernando Delgado. The series is a meditation on form, light and space inspired by the sculptures of Louise Nevelson.

The artist states, “In three categories – White, Black, and Color – I have employed a precise, formal economy – a deliberate restraint of detail – to generate powerful tensions and balances. Generally, the subjects in the Compositions series are vintage ceramic forms of the 1940s and 1950s. Through rigorous arrangement, cropping and camera angle, I reinterpret them in my own vision.”

Delgado was born in Cuba, and studied with Louise Nevelson, Herb Lubalin, and Rudolph de Harak at Cooper Union School of Art in New York. He also studied with Henry Wolf and William Klein at the Parsons School of Design in New York. He spent 25 years as an art director in New York, pursuing a creative career with Macy’s Avon, Bloomingdale’s, Bonwit Teller, and Young & Rubicam Advertising. Now, after his years of contemplating, scrutinizing, and promoting images, he finds himself behind the camera—making images.

His work has been recently showcased in Camera Arts magazine, and his photographs have been shown around the country. Delgado now lives in Placitas, New Mexico.
