Collections Tours Offer Behind-The-Scenes Look Into The New Mexico Museum Of Natural History & Science

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is offering visitors a view behind-the-scenes with tours of the Museum’s Bioscience and Geoscience collections.
Geoscience tour participants will gain entry to the Museum’s prep lab facilities, see the largest collection of fossils in New Mexico, including over 50,000 specimens, and learn about important fossils of all ages collected from across the state. The Geoscience tour is given every first Friday of the month from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (There is a schedule deviation in January, due to the holiday.) and is limited to 20 people. All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Geoscience Tour Schedule:
December 5: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
January 9: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
February 6: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
March 6: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Bioscience tour includes an amazing collection of insects, plants, mammals, mollusks, and birds. Visitors will learn why museum collections are important, how specimens are prepared, and the vital role they play in research. Did you know that New Mexico has over 20 species of native orchids?  Some highlights include a giant clam, a golden eagle, glittering beetles, a spotted bat, and birds' eggs of every size and color. The Bioscience tour is given every third Friday of the month from 11:00 a.m.-noon. All children must be above age 7 and accompanied with an adult.
Bioscience Tour Schedule:
December 19: 11 a.m. to noon
January 16: 11 a.m. to noon
February 20: 11 a.m. to noon
March 20: 11 a.m. to noon

Tours are free with museum admission, but space is limited. No food, drink, or strollers allowed on tours. Tours begin promptly at the Information Desk in the lobby of the Museum. Reservations are welcome: call 505-841-2847. Call 505-841-2800 for more information.
