Bits & Pieces: A pop-up exhibit of collages about eclectic Albuquerque

516 ARTS and Westbund West have teamed up to present a pop-up exhibit at Westbund West featuring fresh new collages by over 20 local artists exploring the subject of Albuquerque's eclectic identity, all created during a workshop at 516 ARTS for On the Map: Unfolding Albuquerque Art + Design. The workshop, taught by artists Katya Crawford, Mira Woodson and Suzanne Sbarge, focused on imagery of, or inspired by, Albuquerque's incongruous juxtapositions reflecting Albuquerque's eclectic nature. Participants each created a 10" x 10" collage on board for this culminating pop-up exhibit.

"One can't help but get emotional about the place, especially if it's threatened. Many people stay in Albuquerque because they cannot imagine living without the sense of freedom that the land instills. It's also true, however, that the central New Mexican landscape around Albuquerque is one of North America's most demanding urban settings. Its aridity and openness, its humbling immensity can be liberating or it can drive some people crazy." --V.B. Price
"Collage is the noble conquest of the irrational, the coupling of two realities, irreconcilable in appearance, upon a plane which apparently does not suit them." -- Max Ernst
