Arabian Horse Association Youth Nationals a Staple at Expo New Mexico

The Youth National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show comes to Expo New Mexico for the 17th time, July 25 – August 1, 2009. The event, which has become a summer staple for the Albuquerque community, attracts thousands of the country’s best Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian show horses to the fairgrounds for eight days of mixed disciplines, including English pleasure, dressage, side saddle, working cow horse, working hunter and mounted native costume.

Children, families, scout troops and 4-H groups should head out to the fairgrounds on Friday, July 31, for a behind-the-scenes look at the show world, to meet show contestants, learn about the Arabian, discover a love for Arabian horses and take home a goody bag. All these activities will be part of AHA's T.A.I.L. (Total Arabian Interaction & Learning) program, which introduces newcomers to the Arabian horse in a hands-on, inclusive manner.

Admission to the show is free, except a nominal parking fee, and the community is encouraged to come watch the multiple arenas and walk through the barns to see the barns decorated in this year’s theme, Arabian Horse Youth Association (AHYA) On the Loose!

Visit for more information as it becomes available, including a tentative class schedule and special events schedule. Contact Hilary Nixon at or 303-696-4580 for general media inquiries or information about participating in the T.A.I.L program.
