Albuquerque welcomes world class flamenco festival in June
After brief absence, the Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque will again grace the stages
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Experience the passion and energy of flamenco at the 23rd annual Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque (www.nationalinstituteofflamenco.org), June 9-13, 2010. As a world class destination event, Festival Flamenco offers authentic cultural exploration that encourages active participation and provides an optimum aesthetic experience. Explore flamenco as a cultural treasure that is uniquely Albuquerque and distinctly New Mexico.
For more than 22 years, the festival has bridged the city of Albuquerque (www.itsatrip.org) with its Spanish roots by recognizing the relationships and intersections of antique Gypsy articulation, Spanish classical expression and contemporary American inflection. The artistic integrity of the festival artists and instructors is of the highest caliber. This year’s event includes performances by Pilar Ogalla, Manuela Carrasco, Antón Jiménez, Andres Pena and many more. The festival attracts over 5,500 workshop participants and theatre patrons, adding to the notoriety and prestige of the event.
In addition to performances, Festival Flamenco offers a distinct, exotic, yet accessible experience for participants of all age groups and levels. Unparalleled in its performance components and level of instruction, the festival is recognized as one of the most important flamenco events outside of Spain. By incorporating all aspects of the art form, Festival Flamenco is a comprehensive flamenco experience – the only one if its kind in the world!
This five-day event will feature a number of premier performances as well as more than 30 workshops taught by master artists. Workshops at Festival Flamenco cater to everyone – from novice to professional – and cover an expansive range of flamenco components. For those new to flamenco and interested in a completely captivating experience, an extensive beginner’s workshop runs the duration of the festival.
This year’s Festival Flamenco is part of Savor Albuquerque (www.savorabq.com), a new signature event in downtown Albuquerque that showcases the city’s arts and culture scene. “We are thrilled to be launching this new festival in Albuquerque and to have Festival Flamenco as its cornerstone event,” said Christopher Goblet, Deputy Director of Albuquerque’s Downtown Action Team. Savor Albuquerque will feature over 100 events throughout its 10-day tenure, June 4th -13th.For more information on Albuquerque, visit www.itsatrip.org.
