ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque and its gorgeous sunsets were ranked 3rd for Best Place to Watch a Sunset category in 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel award sponsored by USA Today. A trip to the top of Sandia Peak is a must during a visit to Albuquerque on North America’s longest aerial tram to watch a breathtaking sunset over the extinct volcanoes of the West Mesa.

Viewing the Sandias in the east during a sunset is just as magical as they take on a pinkish watermelon hue (that's where Sandia got its name – its Spanish for watermelon).  There's nothing quite like a high desert sunset, and in Albuquerque, visitors in the know take the tram to the top of Sandia Peak to watch. The Sandia Peak Tram is a distance of 2.7 miles in a single span. At the observation deck, at 10,378 feet atop Sandia Peak where the gift of  an 11,00 square-mile panoramic view is available on clear days.

Nominations were carefully made by an expert panel, and the public voted for this honor. The winners were promoted on USA TODAY, in the Friday October 18th edition of the print version and on usatoday.com’s travel homefront.
