Albuquerque featured in National Geographic guide for dog lovers
Albuquerque, NM-. (April 18, 2014) - Traveling is always more fun when your companions are by your side, especially those of the four-legged kind. If you're looking for a pet-friendly location that can satisfy both you and your dog, look no further than Albuquerque, New Mexico. The city is a featured destination in the new release from National Geographic Books, The Dog Lover's Guide to Travel.
The book - written by New York Times best-selling author, Kelly E. Carter - features pet-friendly businesses, attractions, and outdoor areas in 75 cities and regions across the United States and Canada. The Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau reached out to Carter in 2013 as the book was being developed. Having recently been named America's Most Pet-Friendly City for Travelers by Priceline.com, Albuquerque was a great fit for the book.
Why Albuquerque is a Destination for Dog-Friendly Travel
- Pup Culture: The Albuquerque feature opens with a focus on the city's pup culture: "The television series Breaking Bad put Albuquerque on the map for pop-culture but it's the pup culture in this New Mexico city that lives on."
- Pet Friendly Restaurants: The guide mentions a list of dog-friendly restaurants that are great for visitors of the human and canine kind. Kelly's Brew Pub, Flying Star Café and O'Niell's were three of the featured locations.
- Hotels Welcome Dogs: Albuquerque has a number of dog-friendly hotels. The guide cited Hotel Andaluz, Hotel Parq Central and Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa for their pet-friendly policies.
- Parks & Recreation: Albuquerque gives pet owners many options for off-leash dog parks, concerts and ball games.
