Albuquerque, NM – Authors and museum curators, Joe Pierce and Joe Dan Lowry will celebrate their devotion to turquoise on September 25, 2010 with a private tour of a captivating prehistoric dig site in the Cerrillos Mining District. Cerrillos is the perfect setting for turquoise enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike, to enjoy a once in a lifetime celebration of history and culture. Guests will enjoy a private tour of the famous prehistoric turquoise dig site, a delicious meal and a meet and greet with Native American artists and leaders in the turquoise industry.

The site is located 50 minutes north of Albuquerque in Santa Fe County, NM. This dig site is not open to the public; the tour will provide people a firsthand look at how turquoise is mined and give attendees the full experience of a prehistoric, historic and modern-day mining area.

“We are very proud to open the mine up to the public for a special event and show guests the life of turquoise,” said Joe Dan Lowry. Some of the best evidence of ancient mining is around the Cerrillos area and specifically at the workings of this historic and magical dig site.
