ALBUQUERQUE - Mark your calendars because you don’t want to miss the 22nd Annual Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque! Once again, the University of New Mexico department of Theater and Dance, The National Institute of Flamenco, the National Hispanic Cultural Center and the City of Albuquerque come together with Eva Encinias Sandoval founder of Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque to present this world class event as top flamenco artists gather in Albuquerque to share their artistry and pass on the tradition of flamenco to eager students from around the world.

For ten consecutive days, June 6-15, audiences will be astounded by flamenco artistry from various artists including Antonio Canales, Rocío Molina, Carmen "La Talegona"
Inmaculada Ortega, Manuel Liñan, Marcos Flores
and our very own Yjastros: "The American Flamenco Repertory Company". Each evening will showcase each artist’s personal contribution to the art of flamenco for example in Canales’s “Los Grandes” audiences will experience the artistry of the “young veterans” in a dynamic show which combines the purest elements of the art with moments of grandeur while Molina’s “Preludios Varios” showcases her choreography, which weaves elements of her refined technical style with influence of modern choreography.

Along with the innovative productions of these various artists, the festival line-up includes
the VI Concurso Nacional de Flamenco an adjudicated competition allowing pre-professionals and professionals to present their choreographies, musical numbers or vocals to a panel of judges comprised of top flamenco artists. Audiences will be amazed at the artistry of the diverse up-and-comers from around the nation. To cap off the ten day performance marathon “Fiesta Flamenca” brings together the stars of each evening to share the stage in a riveting gala performance.

Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque is unique in that it affords participants young and old the opportunity to study all aspects of flamenco in workshop classes. Workshops span for eight consecutive days June 7-14 and participants may involve themselves in every aspect of flamenco including dance technique and repertory, guitar, cante, palmas and cajon. In addition to workshops and performances the festival will be hosting its annual Kids Camp; two full weeks geared towards teaching children the basics of flamenco through innovative classes which allow children to interact with working artists and learn the value of art and music in everyday life.

This year’s festival is not to be missed and all those who enjoy the arts in any capacity will find something inspiring in this year’s production. Participants flock from all over the country to participate and tickets and classes fill up quickly so don’t miss your change to immerse yourself in the art form without even leaving your backyard.
