¡Globalquerque! Returns to NHCC for 11th Year
This year's festival features three stages of music from five continents over two nights. Relax in the intimate courtyard setting of the Fountain Stage, enjoy larger bands in the state-of-the-art 691-seat Journal Theatre, or dance to groove-heavy world music on the Plaza Mayor's outdoor Festival Stage. The weekend promises to be another spectacular cultural and musical trip, as ¡Globalquerque! brings the world to Albuquerque and the Southwest with confirmed acts including Aurelio (Honduras), Fareed Ayaz & Abu Muhammad (Pakistan), Cimarrón (Colombia), Kassé Mady Diabaté (Mali), Tony Duncan (Apache/Arikara/Hidatsa), Alejandro Escovedo (TX, U.S.), Joy Harjo (Mvskoke Nation), JAH9 (Jamaica), Orlando Julius & the Afrosoundz (Nigeria), Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca (Angola/Congo), Lone Piñon (NM, U.S.), Emel Mathlouthi (Tunisia), Maarja Nuut (Estonia), Otava Yo (Russian Federation), and Nano Stern (Chile). For updates on the stellar line-up, visit http://www.globalquerque.com.
In addition to the evening performances, ¡Globalquerque! hosts a free daytime Global Fiesta on Saturday, with family-focused workshops with visiting performers, international dance lessons, films, instrument-building for kids of all ages, other hands-on cultural craft-making, and many more musical and cultural surprises. The Global Village of Craft, Cuisine, and Culture is also open throughout the festival, with booths featuring artwork, artisan crafts, and gourmet international cuisine.
The National Hispanic Cultural Center is dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and advancement of Hispanic culture, arts, and humanities, and is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.
