Corinne Joy Brown, Hidden Star Focusing on a contemporary New Mexican Hispanic woman, this work of historical fiction reflects the history of Crypto-Jews. During the 15th and 16th centuries many Jews fled Spain and Portugal seeking haven in the Americas. They publicly practiced Catholicism in order to stay alive, while they secretly continued their practice of Judaism. Descendants often went through all or much of their lives unaware of their Jewish heritage.
