Concert: Carla Van Blake Quartet-The Real Me

Singer-songwriter Carla Van Blake, who performed last year at the Outpost as a featured vocalist with Bobby Shew, was born in the Appalachian Mountains in the early 1950's and raised in a remote area of West Africa. Her culturally diverse early musical influences are reflected in her songwriting and she has created several collections of work that feature a wide variety of genres, including a Contemporary Christian collection, portions of which appear on her recently released CD, Latter Rain. Van Blake often employs unusual handmade instruments in her songwriting, such as the Idiopan, which she will use in tonight's performance. She is joined by Jim Ahrend, piano; Rodney Bowe, bass; & Douglas Cardwell, drums, plus several special surprise guest artists.
