Albuquerque prides itself on outdoor activities, and there's still plenty to do in the winter months despite the chillier temps. Here are a couple of ideas for you and your family to try!

Play in the snow at Sandia Peak

Head to the top of the Sandia mountains for the freshest powder in Albuquerque. You can either ride the Tram or drive up the east side of the mountain to get to the ski (and snowboard) area. Other fun snow activities include sledding and snowshoeing on the mountain, and year-round activities such as hiking and biking are also still accessible during the winter.

Cook green chile stew

Winter is prime time for New Mexican comfort food. Check out these recipes and our Pinterest board to get inspiration and cook at home, or refer to our dining page if you'd rather eat out.

Enjoy an indoor theatre performance

January through March are primary theatre months in Albuquerque. You can support local troups and even see traveling Broadway shows! Popular venues include Popejoy Hall, the Albuquerque Little Theatre and Tricklock Company (who hosts the annual Revolutions International Theatre Festival, happening in March 2017). Albuquerque Comic Con at the Convention Center is also a popular January event to keep on your radar. Click here for more information on theatre events in Albuquerque.

Take a unique tour

Even though the air is a bit nippier, many tours and activities are still offered year-round in Albuquerque. Check out one of the Albuquerque Tourism & Sightseeing Factory's many offerings, such as the ABQ Trolley X or the Albu-Quirky downtown walking tour.

Have a spa day

The winter climate in New Mexico is ideal for spa day soaks. There are a variety of spas in the Albuquerque area; Betty's Bath and Day Spa is a great place to start. If a road trip is in your future, consider a soak in the healing waters at Ojo Caliente, experience a Japanese oasis at Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe, or explore the Jemez Mountains on a hike and hot spring adventure.
